Dr. John (French Quarter Fest 2014)

It was a complete honor to be selected as the poster artist for the 2014 French Quarter Festival. The numbers are staggering in regards to economic impact of this festival on the City of New Orleans. over 700,000 people were in attendance this year.  I was fortunate enough to be chosen through the competitive selection process and create a poster that was well received by Fest goers. I always try to study the subject of each piece so I can add personal touches that add something about their character to the piece. One of my favorite Dr. John songs is "Such A Night" (Sweet confusion under the Moonlight) The Crescent moon is to pay tribute to that song and also the Crescent City. In addition Dr. John is also known  by some as "The Nite Tripper" and he dresses as an Indian. These are contributing elements to his persona that I wanted to add to give the piece a personal touch that true Dr. John fans would appreciate. There are also some hidden insights into my life as well in this piece...

Dr Michael White (Old Algiers River Fest Poster 2013)

Dr. Michael White is one of New Orleans Greatest musicians. This painting was a commission for the Old Algiers River Fest, of which he is one of the creators of. I had to tie in the river and it's connection to the music of the city with the perspective seen from Algiers Point. His style reminds me of the theme song to the flight path of a butterfly. His runs can take you all over the place and be erratic at times but there is a definite direction to where he takes the listener. I have been a fan of his music for quite some time and it doesn't hurt that he is from my Alma mater St. Augustine High school.

Glen David Andrews (Redemption)

This painting was commissioned by Glen David Andrews himself. I've been friends with Glen Andrews for quite some time now and he always told me that he wanted to commission me for an album cover. Well the time came and I was first on his list. He just asked that I convey the feeling and vibe of the album on the cover. In this particular piece there are hints of elements of the album that give the viewer insight into Glen's storied past. He has been given another shot to make things right in this life and is still on his personal road to redemption and I am happy to be a positive influence in his life as he is in mine.

Deacon John

Deacon John is one of New Orleans' most colorful musicians. I have been a complete fan of him since my father first introduced me to his music. I can remember first hearing him perform "Stagger Lee" live and thinking to myself that his personality embodied what his music sounded like. He is such a great story teller and his music has a way of drawing you right in. I have always wanted to paint him and depict him in as colorful a manner as his music and persona are. I had the pleasure of meeting this musical legend only to find that he is just as funny a character as I am. I'm honored that he was overwhelmed by the portrait. If you are reading this and have not heard his music, I suggest you do yourself a favor and indulge in his intoxicating sound!
